Seachem Laboratories, Inc., a leading manufacturer of products for the aquarium hobby as well as other segments of the pet care industry, has an immediate opening in its Madison, Georgia facility for Research Director. Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to): (1) Research, development, experimentation, and quality control of new and existing products pertaining to the modification, control, and direct measurement of water parameters. Our products are utilized in the maintenance and husbandry of aquatic organisms (i.e. salt and freshwater aquariums). Research will involve the direct development of novel compounds or the reapplication of known materials for new/alternate applications. (2) Research on the impact of said products on various aquatic organisms under a variety of “real world” conditions. (3) Presenting talks on product chemistry background to either employees or consumers. (4) Oversight and responsibility for the quality control processes of the Production Department. (5) Assist in the preparation of regulatory filings, and, where required, provide substantive supporting research. (6) Supervision of junior associates in related activities.

Skills/experience required:

  • A Ph.D. in organic chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry, analytical chemistry, or food chemistry is required with a minimum 5 years post-graduate work (Industrial or Academic) strongly desired although candidates with fewer than 5 years will be considered.
  • The ideal candidate will have a passion for the aquatic hobby and possess a broad and diverse chemical background with emphasis on any of the aforementioned chemical fields.
  • The candidate must be able to both demonstrate independent initiative as well as collaborate with senior management with respect to the inception, formulation and development of new product ideas plus the development of those ideas into full scale production.
  • Articulate communication in English both verbally and written are required, as well as organizational and process oriented skills.

This position requires on site employment in Madison, Georgia. Relocation assistance is negotiable. Experience with GMP and ISO 9000 requirements & process are highly desirable. Experience with Apple Mac OS X operating system and standard Microsoft Office suite also desirable. Other desirable experience includes compliance with USDA, FDA, and EPA laws and regulations. Abilities in physical chemistry are also desirable but not essential.

Location: Madison, GA - Department: Sales & Technical Support

The Sales Support & Product Education Specialist is a fast-paced, customer service oriented position with a focus on providing technical and scientific information about Seachem products to varying types of customers including, but not limited to, domestic and international distributors, pet/aquarium store owners, employees and consumers. Additionally, this position takes an active role in performing sales support duties in assigned territories - both domestically and internationally - requiring a high level of professionalism, organization, and prioritization skills. Individuals must be willing and able to perform the duties of this position under minimal supervision and possess the drive and ability to build strong relationships with accounts in the territories. The ability and schedule to travel both domestically and internationally when and where necessary is a pre-requisite for this position. Persons applying for this position can expect travel to occur once a month or more depending on demand and for a minimum of 7 to 14 days during each travel period.

Major responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Answering technical questions with regard to Seachem products and aquarium keeping using proper presentation, phone, and email etiquette
  • Providing exceptional customer service and sales support to key distributors and retailers in an assigned territory
  • Facilitate and/or create product training presentations, lectures, and informal seminars in order to educate retailers and end-users on Seachem products
  • Travel to major trade shows, aquarium society, and industry events to represent the company when and where necessary as assigned by management
  • Conduct formalized, college style training courses at Seachem headquarters for store owners, managers, and employees which require public speaking ability and computer literacy
  • Perform all other job related functions as assigned by Management regardless of time, location, or anticipated engagements including weekends and evenings

Minimum requirements:

  • Conversational fluency in a foreign language strongly preferred
  • The ability to present information effectively in front of large groups in an educated fashion
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a science-related field
  • Computer literacy, proper phone etiquette, and public speaking ability
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly in and out of the United States
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

This position is full time hourly at a regular entry level rate of $36,000 annually, subject to a training wage at the rate of $30,000 annually until fully functional. Location: Madison, GA - Department: Shipping

Seachem Laboratories, Inc. has an opening for a warehouse assistant. Must be experienced and proficient in the operation of both stand-up order pickers and forklifts. Duties will include pulling finished goods using a pick ticket system, stacking and wrapping product for shipment. Must be detailed oriented and good with numbers as speed and accuracy is a must. Other duties include loading and unloading trucks, and moving product within the warehouse. Must be able to lift 70 lbs and effectively follow both written and verbal instructions while paying close attention to detail. Drivers license and minimum education of high school diploma or GED.
